The Cary Theater is launching a new movie series for families - especially those with little ones.

Film Day - Fun Day will launch this week, Tuesday, June 7, with "Toy Story." Movies are scheduled for twice a month through July so the theater can gauge the interest.

"We may expand it after that," Joyce Ennis, the theater's operations and program supervisor tells me. "We’re excited and hope that this will be a fun new tradition for moms (or dads) and their kids."

For the screening, the theater will take out some of the chairs in the front and add play mats for the smallest guests. The house lights will stay at half so you can see your little ones. The theater will only show kid-approved films.

And kids won't be expected to stay in their seat or stay quiet. Ennis tells me that movie goers should expect laughing, talking and playing during the film. Even toys are welcome (as long as they don't make noises).

Parents can enjoy a specialty coffee during the screening from the theater's own Brew coffee shop. Movie tickets are just $1 each.

Here's the schedule:

10 a.m., Tuesday, June 7: Toy Story
10 a.m., June 21: Toy Story 2
10 a.m., July 12: Best of the Fest: Kid Flix 1 (a collection of eight short animated films that are appropriate for ages 3 to 8)

10 a.m., July 26: Aladdin

I absolutely love this idea! The theater is at 122 E. Chatham St., Cary.
