Cary selects new downtown manager

Posted August 29, 2013

— A project manager for a historic district in Charlotte has been hired as Cary’s next downtown manager, officials said Thursday.

Ted Boyd, who serves as a director with Charlotte Center City Partners, was selected from 225 applicants to replace Ed Gawf, who stepped down from the job in April.

Boyd, who was recognized by the Charlotte Business Journal with a “40 Under 40” award this year, will head up efforts to revitalize downtown Cary. He specializes in economic development, redevelopment and community engagement.

“Ted has the talent, skills, and experience to take our revitalizing downtown to the next level, which includes a focus on recruiting new businesses to downtown and helping us complete and promote several of the public projects we have underway,” Cary Town Manager Ben Shivar said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to having him become part of our organization.”

Glad to have some young blood here for downtown. Hope he'll encourage downtown residential development and something else besides bulldozing old houses for a park with nothing in it...
