Harold Weinbrecht Jr., mayor of Cary, said Monday he intends to run for re-election. If he succeeds, it would be his second term in office. Weinbrecht became mayor in 2007. He served four years on the town council from 1999-2003.

Weinbrecht is married, has two children and works as a programmer at SAS.

Michelle Muir, a marketing consultant, has also said she will contend for the office.

Cary's municipal election is Oct. 11.

The $1 million in lawsuits will probably be what keeps him from being re-elected.

As a longtime resident of Cary, I am glad the Mayor will run again. He has done a very good job maintaining Cary's fiscal health while not sacrificing the quality of life in our town. And he seems like a genuinely nice, hardworking person.

Nothing will change, regardless of who runs/wins. I just wish our mayor would get a big boy hair cut.

as a long time Cary resident I think the Mayor has done a pretty good job and see no reason to change course now. There are many who will comment who do not live in Cary nor pay the level of taxes I do who will think otherwise.

Not really excited about this. Weinbrecht, along with Meeker in Raleigh, never understood what the word LOOP meant. After a Kindergarten refresher course. and the GOP candidates reminding them of their pre-election rhetoric, they seemed to figure it out. Glad that Meeker will quit and go back to school. I'm thinking he quit also, and be best school buddies with Meeker.
