Cary's film day for young audiences to feature 'The Tale of Despereaux'

Cary's next Film Day Fun Day for young audiences is Tuesday - and it's sure to be popular with the rainy weather in the forecast.

The regular series at The Cary, the town's downtown theater, features family-friendly flicks where kids are welcome to play and make a little noise. In fact, they pull up some of the seats in the front of the theater and replace them with play mats so kids have room to spread out.

"We’ve had quite a few moms bring in toddlers just to introduce them to the movie theater experience in a relaxed environment," Shane Houston, The Cary's program attendant, tells me.

The series began in the spring and can draw anywhere between 30 and 100 people on the mornings when they are scheduled.

This week, it's set for 10 a.m., Tuesday. The featured film is the G-rated "The Tale of Despereaux," based on author Kate DiCamillo’s Newbery Medal-winning children’s book. Tickets are just $1. And the theater's coffee shop is open with snacks, along with coffee drinks for parents.

The next Film Day Fun Day is Oct. 4 and features "Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium."
