CARY, N.C. — Cary police responding to a burglary in progress Wednesday followed the three suspects back to their apartment, where a three-hour stalemate unfolded before their arrests.

Corey Lamar Edgerton, 22, Shelby T. Jordan, 23, and Lena Nichole Smith, 29, were eventually arrested and taken to the Wake County jail.

Police say a concerned resident of Hyde Park Court called 911 to report suspicious behavior around 2:30 p.m. Officers responding to the burglary followed three suspects, who are accused of breaking in to two apartments, back to the 118 building of Hidden Oaks Drive.

The building was evacuated around 5:30 p.m. as a precaution.

Eventually, police made contact with the suspected burglars and arrested them without incident. A number of stolen items, including some from Hyde Park Court, were seized from the apartment.

Police do not believe the burglaries are linked to a rash of apartment break-ins in western and central Cary.

Edgerton was charged with two counts of felony breaking and entering, conspiracy to commit felony breaking and entering, two counts of felony larceny after breaking and entering, larceny of a firearm and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Jordan was charged with two counts of felony breaking and entering, conspiracy to commit felony breaking and entering, two counts of felony larceny after breaking and entering, larceny of a firearm and misdemeanor child abuse.

Smith faces one count of conspiracy to commit felony breaking and entering.
