Cary Parkway reopens after gas leak

Posted April 17, 2009

— Southwest Cary Parkway was closed for a short time Friday afternoon between Colonial Townes Court and Lake Pine Drive as crews repaired a broken gas line.

A paving crew working on Cary Parkway hit a 2-inch underground gas main shortly before 11 a.m., police said.

No injuries were reported, and no nearby homes were evacuated, police said.

The gas line was capped and repaired, and the road was reopened by 1:30 p.m.

Anyone know how a paving crew hits a buried gas line. Paving happens on the top of the road. Was the gas line sticking up out of the ground?
