CARY, N.C. — A 33-year-old Cary woman was arrested and charged Sunday in connection with the March death of her 4-month-old son, Cary police said.

Shenequa Lashan Walker, of 14301 Praxis Way, is charged with child abuse, willful act or omission causing serious bodily injury and involuntary manslaughter. Walker remained at the Wake County jail Sunday under a $500,000 bond. Her first court appearance is scheduled for Monday morning.

Walker’s son was found unresponsive on March 3 inside the Praxis Way home after she contacted emergency dispatchers, according to a 911 recording.

Walker said she woke up to her son not breathing, "looking coldish" and blood was coming from his nose. The dispatcher directed her to perform CPR on the baby.

Paramedics arrived about seven minutes later. The baby was pronounced dead at the scene.

“While we are relieved that an arrest has been made in the death of baby A.J., the baby’s death is a tragedy,” Cary police Lt. Brian Smith said in a statement. “We appreciate the efforts of those who were involved in investigating this case, and our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time.”

Cary police did not release the boy's name or say how he died.
