— State troopers found the body of a 21-year-old man and his 2012 Ford Mustang in Jordan Lake Wednesday morning.

Authorities said it appeared that Anthony Thomas Fico, of Cary, was driving west at about 60 mph on Marthas Chapel Road around 12:45 a.m. when he went off the road, struck a guardrail, went airborne and landed in Jordan Lake.

Fico was the only person in the car.

It's unclear if he was wearing his seat belt or if alcohol was a factor in the crash, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said.

His body was sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Chapel Hill for an autopsy.

According to his mother, Fico served two tours in Iraq and had been having some troubles recently, although she did not elaborate.

My guess is that the mangled car being pulled out of the lake is not the one related to this accident and was added for effect.

I dont understand why they are showing the wrecker pulling a motor and transmission out of the water? I is it the motor and tranny out of his 2012 mustang? If so how did it come out of the car? In my 30+ years in Law Enforcement and as a Volenteer Fireman I have only seen a couple of wrecks where the motor seperated from the car and in those cases it was extremly violent wrecks like over 100mph impacts with bridge supports or headons with tractor trailer rigs. But this was reported as a 60mph into a lake. I just dont understand how the motor and trnasmission from a new car could seperate like that from what if the news report is to believed is a fairly normal accident.
