Cary man faces more child sex abuse charges

CARY, N.C. — More charges of sexual abuse involving a child were filed Friday against a Cary man first arrested last weekend.

Pedro Ventura Chavez, 33, of 304 Middleton Ave., faces new charges of first-degree rape and first-degree sexual offense against a child. He was arrested last Sunday on one charge of felony taking indecent liberties with a minor.

Arrest warrants list a 10-year-old girl as the victim. Sources have told WRAL that the girl had been abused for over a year.

Chavez was being held in the Wake County jail Friday under a $1 million secured bond. He has also been placed under a detainer by federal the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.
