— A 38-year-old Cary man is facing child pornography charges.

Matthew Richard Jones, of 632 Northwoods Drive, is charged with 18 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

According to arrest warrants, police said Jones downloaded sexually explicit videos of girls between the ages 7 to 14 years old.

Jones was being held under a $100,000 bond in the Wake County jail on Thursday.

seankelly, also, I think you and I would both agree that whoever made the videos is wrong on so many levels. I hear what you are saying about everything else, I think I am indignant over an excuse for having it being made. The old "oh, if I don't have my kiddie porn I might go molest a real kid." My point is that a real kid WAS molested to make the porn this man saw. Child porn, at least to me, maybe the law views it differently, is real kids, not drawn cartoons. While I think drawn cartoons are sick, I can't really say they should be outlawed, unfortunately. Yes, my personal opinion is the distribution of such materials can contribute to more abuse, but the reality is that would be hard to prove. And we've got plenty of works of art that depict violence, and we aren't outlawing those. So, my problem is this man is in possession of pictures of a child being abused. I don't think there are any excuses for that. And I'm sure we both agree on that point.

seankelly, I don't want to downplay pedophilia as simply an addiction or something they can't control. They can definitely make choices. However, it is a bit like it, in that they think about it until they do it. My extensive knowledge is pretty basic, which is why I don't understand the thinking that looking at pictures keeps them from raping kids. I hate that excuse. It makes people forget that these images were created somehow, and even if they are cartoon, it is someone fantasizing about sex with kids, for goodness sake. There are plenty of fetishes you can involve yourself with that I don't care one bit about - just as long as it is with two (or more, if that's your game) consenting adults. When you put kids in the picure, no. Just no.

I have to ask, were the downloads intentional or in unwanted images unknowingly attached to other downloads? Was he the only one with access to the computer? Were the images saved or in the temp file? If he is a true pedophile, he'd probably have hundreds of saved images, not 18. Lets not convict this man without knowing all the facts. If he's guilty, that's one thing but we don't know that for sure so...

First thought was 'whoa Cary', again. Then again maybe it is that Cary law enforcement is doing a good job catching these people. As far as going after the users instead of the consumers, there would be no creators if there were no users. Again, these people are most likely doing something other than viewing this pornography.

Lots of single white male socially awkward computer dudes live in Cary. I think this is the same demographic that fits the profile for this crime, hence the spike in occurences in Cary. Just my theory.

There is more access to bored, rich, white teenage girls in Cary. Easier to entice with drugs, alcohol, etc. When you fish, you go where the baitfish are... in this case it happens to be Cary/Apex area. Keeping a GOOD eye on my children...

    Not again,

Here's the deal- pedophiles are everywhere. fortunatley Cary has a good Cyber crime division that actually catches these guys.
am proud my PD in Cary is getting these pedophiles off the street while yours are walking free.

Really you think they are everywhere? Then how many are aressted outside of CARY??? Not as many as you think. Must be the social anxiety they are repressing living in that community. Must be all that beige that drives people crazy!!!!! Or the fact that there is no privacy on those postage stamp size yards!!!!!

This horrible, but let me ask this: Do we focus too much on the consumers of child porn and not the creators? I get the sense that part of where the War on Drugs fails is that we lock up users when we ought to be focusing more on the dealers and higher-ups.
Is something similar going on here?

Everyone who is eager to assume this person's guilt please keep this in mind: If you have a wireless internet router which is not secured (or someone breaks the security) and someone "borrows" your signal to get on the internet, then this could be YOU! I'm not saying that's what happened here, I'm saying this could easily be the case.

It seems that there have been several Cary residents over the recent years that have been charged similarily. What's going on in Cary?
