Cary man charged with attacking police officers

A Cary man faces charges of attacking two police officers over the weekend as they were apprehending another person.

CARY, N.C. — A Cary man faces charges of attacking two police officers over the weekend as they were apprehending another person.

Edwin Roel Morales-Arreaga, 20, of 227 Dixon Ave., was charged with assault on a law enforcement officer inflicting serious injury, resisting a public officer and assault on a government official.

According to an arrest warrant, Cary police officers Robert Allen and T. Hageter were trying to take an assault suspect into custody on Saturday when Morales-Arreaga attacked them and tried to free the suspect from the back of a patrol car.

Allen suffered a broken rib and a sprained wrist in the scuffle and had to be treated at a nearby hospital, while Hageter was repeatedly struck in the chest, the warrant states.
