— A Cary homeowner who is advertising his love for the town in big, bold letters is in violation of the local sign ordinance, town spokeswoman Susan Moran said Monday.

Keith Ramsey painted the message, "We love the Town of Cary" in white letters on a black tarp along Southwest Maynard Road over the weekend.

Ramsey lives within a block of William David Bowden, who has battled Cary officials in court for almost a year about a message Bowden painted on his home that criticized the town.

Bowden claims a road-widening project left his once-arboreal yard, at 305 SW Maynard Road, void of trees and with a steep slope that funnels rain water into his home.

Assistant Town Manager Mike Bajorek said the town has attempted to negotiate with Bowden but has been unable to reach a satisfactory solution.

Ramsey said he plans to take his sign down before fines begin Thursday.

to be perfectly honest because of the railroad tracks, you must go south one block, right another block, right another block and find it on the left down a side street. i guess you were extra horny after paying your water bill you could drive through the train station parking lot so that you get there extra fast.

like i said. it's not an eyesore. it's located in a good spot for nightime business. all those cary haters just won't admit it that they occasionally have a good time there. it's a heck of alot classier than the adult bookstores in raleigh and garner that is a hub for disease...lol..

Tell it Prozac. The strip bar is one block "across" town hall. Heck, they would complain that the Cary nudy bar is better than the one in Raleigh.

terd..you need to get your facts right...the strip bar is not across the street from the town buildings. sorry but get your cary facts right. besides most people in cary have no issue with the nudy bar so don't assume it's such an eyesore. it's not.

so you like class envy also...

"So why hasnt anyone commented on the STILL RIDICULOUS sign ordinance in Cary? Why hasnt Cary used those ugly green signs they put up a couple years back. Every time I drive by them they are off? "

The sign ordinance has been changed. Go drive by Cary Town Square. I've seen those electric signs used a few times, maybe you are on the wrong side of town.

You all are missing one very important point that Cary was "up-graded" in appearance and advertized in Yankee Doodle Dandy Land (AKA Ohio), as an alternative choice of residence. Little do they know the design was engineered by NC citizens with a genuine interest in keeping them fenced in so they couldn't contaminate the gene pool. It's so funny to drive by Cary Town Hall and admire the fine architecture that's right across the street from the strip club.

I guess my point is--"obviously going to widen" is a less then stable argument to me. You can't assume something is obvious to others that you see as obvious--unless he signed something that said there is a good possibility or that a road project was scheduled for the future, we can't assume he should have known. Don't get me wrong, I think this guy is totally in the wrong--but I don't think an argument can be won expecting somebody to notice the obvious, people will play dumb (or as it seems in this case, they really are just that dumb):-)

"the road was OBVIOUSLY going to be widened--was there a sign that said that"

Maynard road has been slowly being widened since the late 80s. 5 lanes past Kildaire, 5 lanes past Old Apex. Sooner or later they would have to fill the gap in between.
