Cary dentists give back with day of free care for those in need
The team from Cary Family Dental is participating in Dentistry From The Heart, a nonprofit effort to provide free dental care for those in need. The team helped more than 500 adults in the first three years of the event.
Posted — Updated“Oh, Saturday is going to be crazy,” he said. “We’re going to have people lining up the night before and probably sleeping in our parking lot. We’ll have 10 dentists. We’ll have about 50 volunteers. It’s just our favorite day of the year.”
“You know the best part of the day is when we get hugs,” Acton said. “People have been in pain for months and they had a tooth that maybe they didn’t like the way it looked or it was infected, and we’re able to help them out. Once they realize they’re going to be better, they just smile and they give us hugs, and the tears start coming.”
The end result of the free clinic is about $50,000 worth of dental work in one day. And it’s all free.
“Everybody can come,” Acton said. “It’s on a first-come, first-serve basis, so get here as early as you can.”
Some will drive for hours to the clinic on Kildaire Farm Road. Many without cars will walk. Acton knows it will be a long, hard day.
“It brings me a great amount of joy,” he said. “It’s really an amazing sensation, and I’m really excited to be able to do it.”
