Cary Businesses Balk at Beautification Plan

— Some downtown Cary business owners are complaining about the town's streetscape plan.

In order to make room for bus stops and wider sidewalks, the town planned to eliminate at least 16 parking spaces around the intersection of Academy and Chatham Streets.

The owner of Ashworth Drugstore says every parking space is crucial to business. He hopes town planners will reconsider.

    Ah but you don't understand the plan. They want to fully blight the area, declare it blighted and then condemn the property and seize it. Then they will float a ton of debt or raise taxes to build a big old civic center. After all, the US Supreme court did away with property rights not to long ago.

    Downtown Cary has a nice, small town charm, including the dearth of available parking. Come on Cary, don't you want those businesses to do well?
