WAKE COUNTY, N.C. — Drivers should expect delays and detours Sunday morning around the Cary Arts Center as the town relocates a large public art piece.

The 11-foot tall ceramic sculpture known as “The Meeting Place” will be moved from the Downtown Performace Green to the location of a future park at the intersection of Pleasants Avenue and Kildaire Farm Road.

Town officials said the move, scheduled for 7 to 8 a.m., will prompt closure of parts of Dry Avenue and Kildaire Farm Road. Drivers are advised to use Walker Street, Byrum Street, Forest Green Drive and Meadow Drive as alternate routes.

The sculpture has been a source of controversy. Town leaders have received complaints saying the $40,000 art piece is an expensive eyesore.

The move is expected to cost about $25,000.
