— Drivers should expect delays and detours Sunday morning around the Cary Arts Center as the town relocates a large public art piece.

The 11-foot tall ceramic sculpture known as “The Meeting Place” will be moved from the Downtown Performace Green to the location of a future park at the intersection of Pleasants Avenue and Kildaire Farm Road.

Town officials said the move, scheduled for 7 to 8 a.m., will prompt closure of parts of Dry Avenue and Kildaire Farm Road. Drivers are advised to use Walker Street, Byrum Street, Forest Green Drive and Meadow Drive as alternate routes.

The sculpture has been a source of controversy. Town leaders have received complaints saying the $40,000 art piece is an expensive eyesore.

The move is expected to cost about $25,000.

I guess there aren't any "art" critics in CAYREE,else they would have put this at the sewer treatment plant.May keep the flies away!!

Typical for any level of government. Rather than admit a $40,000 mistake and cut their losses, they'll spend another $25,000 trying to show the initial outlay was justified.

And then they wonder why high debt is the new norm for cities, counties, states, and the country as a whole.

kateyezkateyez - "If you live in Cary, YOUR tax dollars at work!"

Moved away from there many years ago to the country. Too crowded and uppity for my tastes.

Heck, they're so jammed in many Cary neighborhoods, if one neighbor eats cabbage, the ones on either side of them get gas.

This piece of junk has been sitting on a tractor trailer bed for two days with what looks like Saran Wrap around it. Why is traffic going to be a problem???? Move it late at night so we aren't inconvenienced with this eye soar any longer.
