Cary approves $261 million budget with no property tax increase
Town council members on Thursday approved a $261 million budget, which doesn't includes a property tax increase but has several fee increases.
Posted — UpdatedCARY, N.C. — Town council members on Thursday approved a $261 million budget, which doesn’t includes a property tax increase but has several fee increases:
- Building permit fees will increase by about 5 percent
- Water and sewer rates will increase 3.5 percent, about $2.21 more per month for residents using 4,500 gallons of water
The budget also funds a number of new positions:
- Six police officers for a new patrol beat in northwestern Cary
- A code enforcement chief
- A zoning compliance officer
- A wastewater systems technician
- Converting the therapeutic recreation specialist from a part-time position to full-time
“With improvements in the national economy now slowly making their way to the local level, we’re in a somewhat better position this year to be able to address our community’s expectations for excellent service,” Town Manager Ben Shivar said in a statement.
