if they are stealing cars and running away at 12 and 14 they should be a piece of work by the time they are 18.

Kids this age think they know all there is to know. They have no clue of the dangers they put themselves in and how easy it is to become prey to some creep who wants to use them. Thank God they were found and safe and are being returned home. Once home, I hope they find answers to the problems that made them run away in the first place. Stay home, grow up, and be safe.

they need to be held accountable for their actions, how did they get to Raleigh? It is a known fact that young teens know more than their parents at the same age.

I think y'all would be surprised at how many 12 year olds have "boyfriends and girlfriends". And believe it or not the vast majority of those "relationships" are very innocent- sitting together at lunch, hanging out at school dances....

I'm not saying it is right, but it is a reality.

Criminals in training. What kind of parents do these kids have. My daughter hated me from around 13 till 18 or so, but she never resorted to criminal activity

Me and my buddies met 3 girls around age 16 on the beach at Myrtle during the middle of summer 'bout 25 years ago and 2 of them said they ran away from home in NY while their parents were vacationing in France. After hanging out for a little while and figuring out who was gonna hook up with whom, a guy walks up to us on the crowded beach and turns out to be a private investigator looking for the girls. Their parents were standing on the boardwalk. Musta been a pretty good PI to find 2 runaways from NY on a crowded beach in SC. Messed up our plans though..haha. Glad these kids were found safe.

They got to Raleigh by stealing a car and driving here. Then they fled a traffic stop when the police tried to stop them. These are not the innocent little kids you think they are.
