Carrboro rape cases end in longest prison sentence in Orange history

Posted March 4, 2014

— A Burlington man was sentenced Tuesday to 138 to 179 years in prison after he was convicted of raping two Carrboro women, authorities said.

A jury deliberated less than two hours before finding Frank Cruz, 36, guilty of rape, kidnapping, burglary and related charges in three attacks on two women. The sentence is the longest ever handed down in Orange County, District Attorney Jim Woodall said.

Cruz was arrested in October 2010 when DNA evidence implicated him in a rapes that occurred in November 2005 and January and March 2006.

8 years for trial to conclude is way too long. Glad the sentence is long enough and the mans assets were milked by Orange county. Now we need new sentence laws to put all criminals away to protect the population.

Good to see, now if only they'd take murder cases as seriously.

That's the problem. Think of all the hungry you could feed with what's going to be wasted on him. Think of the clothes and shelter we could provide for those in need from the money that's wasted in housing him. He should have gotten the death penalty, and then taken out back and shot.

It's nice to see a judge and jury, who are willing to make a statement to the country. This guy will die in prison. The only complaint from me would be that we still have to support him for the rest of his life. Maybe we get lucky on this one.
