Carrboro police chief to retire
Police Chief Carolyn Hutchison plans to retire in the fall, although no date has been set, Carrboro officials said Wednesday.
Posted — UpdatedHutchison has served on the Carrboro Police Department for more than 28 years and has been chief since 1998.
"Chief Hutchison has served our community with honor and distinction. Her retirement is a real loss for our community, but after decades of keeping our community safe, she has earned it," Mayor Mark Chilton said in a statement.
"Chief Hutchison is the hardest-working, most dedicated police chief I've ever known. Filling her position will be difficult, but replacing her will be impossible" Town Manager David Andrews said in a statement.
Town staff is researching options for how to select a new police chief and will share information with the Board of Aldermen and the Carrboro community in the coming months, officials said.
