Carolinas legislators battle on court in biennial hoops game

RALEIGH, N.C. — College basketball teams from North Carolina and South Carolina had an unforgettable year with Final Fours and national championships. Now legislators from both states are looking for a small fraction of that glory on the court.
Lawmakers from the North Carolina General Assembly and South Carolina Legislature are playing their traditional biennial basketball game Tuesday night at Reynolds Coliseum on the N.C. State University campus. The winner of the game — its venue shifting between the Carolinas every other year— gets a trophy. There's also a preliminary game Tuesday pitting legislative staff members against lobbyists from the two states.
Attendees were being asked to drop off non-perishable food items at the coliseum entrance to benefit the North Carolina Association of Food Banks.
