Carolina Hurricanes opens up practices, plans Summerfest

Here's another way to cool off this week ...

The Carolina Hurricanes is getting ready for the next season, hosting a Prospects Development Camp that will feature members of the Hurricanes' 2015 draft class, along with other players and invitees. The camp began Monday and continues through Saturday. There are several practices that will be open to the public.

Parking and admission are free for the practices, which are scheduled for 5:30 p.m., Wednesday and Friday. Doors open 15 minutes before the scheduled sessions. You can park and enter at the East entrance of the PNC Arena in Raleigh. Food and drink will be available for purchase. The Eye team store also will be open.

The camp wraps up on Saturday with a team practice and Summerfest Celebration with an open practice, inflatables, games, giveaways, autographs, visits with Stormy and the Storm Squad, discounted concessions, hockey games and more. The event starts at 10 a.m., Saturday, inside the PNC Arena with activities expanding across the entire first level of the building, according to the Hurricanes' website. After the practice, there even will be a chance for people to get on the ice and take a shot on goal. Parking and admission also are free on Saturday.

The team's Kids 'N Community Foundation will hold a fundraiser. At a kiosk in the East Priority Lounge, fans can buy a magnet with numbers 1 to 100 for $50. The number matches up with a mystery item autographed by current and former Hurricanes players such as replica sticks, 2014-15 mystery items, photos, pucks, jerseys and more, the website says.
