Carolina Ballet's Shakespeare series starts this week, includes free tickets for teens

As part of this series, high school students with a valid student ID can get in for free ... as long as tickets are available.

Carolina Ballet is marking the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death with four productions based on his plays and sonnets. The performances begin this week with "Love Speaks," which runs Feb. 4 to Feb. 21 at the Duke Energy Center for Performing Arts in Raleigh.

As part of this series, high school students with a valid student ID can get in for free ... as long as tickets are available. This pilot program began in November when the ballet performed Beethoven: Symphony No. 9 and Petruschka. (I wrote about this deal back then too).

High school students also can get free tickets to Tempest Fantasy, which runs March 3 to March 20; Macbeth, which runs April 14 to April 17; and George Balanchine's A Midsummer Night's Dream, which runs May 12 to May 15.

Here's how to get those free tickets: All tickets are based on availability for select performances at the discretion of Carolina Ballet. Students can call the Carolina Ballet Box Office at 919-719-0900 to reserve a seat. The tickets will be held at the will call window at the theater. Students must present a valid student ID to pick up their ticket. Students may also get their tickets at the theater on the day of the show one hour before curtain.
