— A driver was charged Thursday after his car slammed into a house in southeast Raleigh, police said.

A Ford Edge that was southbound on Cross Link Road ran off the left side of the road, knocked over a mailbox and skidded through two yards before hitting the front porch at 808 Cross Link Road, police said. The car then spun around and hit a nearby parked vehicle and flipped over onto its roof, police said.

The driver fled the scene on foot, but police later tracked him down at his home.

Gregory Dontez Owens, 35, of 3970 Cane Garden Drive, was charged with driving while impaired and hit-and-run, police said.

No one inside the home that was damaged was hurt, police said.

"Car slams into house; driver charged"...well,I'm certainly hoping they didn't charge the homeowner! LOL I was actually in court (with a friend, not myself..THIS time) and there was a guy in court who hit a house while drunk...his defense was that it was raining and the road was slick. The judge looked at his Blood Alcohol and said "son, it wouldn't have mattered if it were sunny out as drunk as you were"...got a great laugh from the courtroom audience.

Professor: Have you never heard of second-hand smoke? Second, the new budget raises taxes on alcohol. Third, What if a smoking driver drops their cig in there seat under their behind causing a reckless episode?

    LOL! Just playing devil's advocate!

No not good driving. He was stoned drunk. An alcoholic. Yet we continue to raise taxes on cigarettes etc. What about raising a $2.00 tax on all alcoholic beverages? Alcohol has killed millions of people. Smoking just harms that person indivually.
