Car Salesman Indicted on Fraud Charges

Posted April 22, 2008

— A used-car salesman has been indicted on more than 20 charges in connection with a scheme to sublease high-end cars.

Victor Godfrey, 62, the owner of Unique Auto Sales, at 2501 Blue Ridge Road, was indicted on four counts each of obtaining property by false pretense and buying or selling a motor vehicle without a license, six counts of conveyance by a bailee, three counts of misdemeanor sublease arrangement violations and two counts each of attempting to obtain property by false pretense and felony sublease arrangement violations.

Godfrey is accused of buying and selling luxury cars and subleasing them to third parties. At least three owners never were paid for their cars, and four cars valued at more than $150,000 combined are still missing, authorities said.

I'm sorry, but if I sell a car I'm wanting some kind of payment when I hand the keys over. Check, cash...something.
