— A vehicle struck and killed a 73-year-old pedestrian along N.C. Highway 98 east of Durham, state troopers said.

Jasper Thomas Villines, of Hillsborough, was walking east in the westbound lane of N.C. 98 around 12:45 a.m. Sunday, troopers said. A vehicle hit him at the intersection with Sherron Road.

Troopers said alcohol was not a factor in the wreck, and they had not yet decided if the driver, Andrea Michelle Little, would be charged.

Villines suffered from Alzheimer's disease and had become separated from his family Saturday evening, troopers said.
