Car hits utility pole in Apex, 1 killed

— A car crashed into a utility pole outside a Waffle House restaurant near downtown Apex on Sunday, killing the driver.

The wreck at 1417 E. Williams St./N.C. Highway 55, near an exit from U.S. Highway 1, happened just before 1:45 a.m.

Steven William Ward, 23, was driving the 2008 Nissan Altima and was killed. Two injured passengers were treated and released from WakeMed.

    There were 2 passengers in the car, I know the guy that helped them out of the car and got them past the live wires.

    Their were 3 passengers and one driver It was 4 people in the car my husband works for Progress Energy and worked getting the poles back up.
