Driver killed when car crashes through fence, hits Hope Mills home
A 36-year-old woman died early Wednesday after losing control of her car and crashing into two fences and a house in a Hope Mills neighborhood.
Posted — UpdatedAccording to North Carolina State Highway Patrol investigators, Lauren Brandon was driving at about 60 mph when she lost control of her 1994 Lincoln in a curve on Algood Avenue shortly before 12:30 a.m.
Troopers said Brandon clipped a fence on one side of the street, over-corrected and ran through a fence on the other side before striking the back of a home on Woodlard Drive. The car briefly caught fire after the crash, but the homeowner and a neighbor were able to extinguish the flames.
Investigators said Brandon was dead before she hit the house. A metal post broke off the first fence and came through the windshield, hitting her in the head and killing her.
No one in the home was hurt.
According to the Highway Patrol, Brandon was involved in a hit-and-run near the intersection of Mid Pine and Legion roads about five minutes before the crash.
Troopers said they are investigating to determine if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
