CREEDMOOR, N.C. — A car crashed through a home in Creedmoor on Tuesday morning before coming to a stop in the backyard, police said.

Officers responded to the home, at 2120 Westbourne Drive, just after 10 a.m. Police said the driver, Robert Harris Jr. of Franklinton, left the road, struck the house, traveled through the home and hit a tree in the backyard.

Four children were home at the time of the crash. Harris and one person in the home were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Randi Thompson lives down the street. She said she ran outside after hearing a really loud noise.

"It was a very loud bang," Thompson said. " I mean, I don't even know what I would compare it to, but it was loud. It wasn't a normal kind of noise that we hear in the neighborhood."

Family members said they believe Harris has some sort of medical episode that caused him to run into the house.

Building inspectors declared the house condemned because of the extent of the structural damage. The Red Cross is assisting the family.

The investigation is ongoing.
