Car crashes into fence around Chatham County Courthouse
A car crashed into the fencing and scaffolding surrounding the Chatham County Courthouse on Tuesday afternoon, officials said.
Posted — UpdatedThe fencing has been in place since March 25 when the courthouse was severely damaged by a fire.
Authorities said the driver of a late-model Dodge Charger was unable to stop as he entered the traffic circle around the courthouse just after 2 p.m.
The driver, Salmon David Alston, was transported by ambulance to a hospital, said Chatham County spokeswoman Debra J. Henzey. His injuries did not appear to be serious.
The scaffolding was apparently not severely damaged, Henzey said. A wrecker had been called to remove the vehicle.
