— A car crashed into the fencing and scaffolding surrounding the Chatham County Courthouse on Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

The fencing has been in place since March 25 when the courthouse was severely damaged by a fire.

Authorities said the driver of a late-model Dodge Charger was unable to stop as he entered the traffic circle around the courthouse just after 2 p.m.

The driver, Salmon David Alston, was transported by ambulance to a hospital, said Chatham County spokeswoman Debra J. Henzey. His injuries did not appear to be serious.

The scaffolding was apparently not severely damaged, Henzey said. A wrecker had been called to remove the vehicle.

Kind of throwing the first stones?

I worked with SD Alston for 15 years, as far as I know the man never took a drink. His whole family are some of the best people anyone here would be lucky enough to know. I would put my money on some kind of medical reason being at the root of whatever happened.

Guess they didn't hear about the courthouse fire and wasn't looking for the altered traffic pattern.

Or.... as RainierBeer stated.... could have been that three martini lunch.

Maybe it's people from wake county trying to look at the poor court house instead of paying attention to their driving????

people just loose their minds going around that circle. When I worked up there @ least once a week someone went around it backwards.

Malocchio: Exactly! Is it just TOO hard to instead write "Driver of car unable to stop upon entering traffic circle"

  • Cracka Jack May 4, 2010

was the car unable to stop or was the driver unable to stop the car?
