Car, chased by troopers, crashes near Durham-Orange line

Posted December 18, 2009

A man who tried to flee from state troopers crashed his car Friday morning near the Durham-Orange county line, authorities said.

The state Highway Patrol was in pursuit of a vehicle northbound on Interstate 85 when it crashed into the back of a truck just after 11 a.m., troopers said.

The driver, who first attracted attention by driving 40 mph in the 65-mph zone, sped up when troopers approached and led them on a high-speed chase for about nine miles.

The unidentified man was taken to Duke University Hospital; he was the only person injured in the crash.

Lanes were closed briefly while the wreck was cleared.

I still am confused about this story. ABC11 talks about chasing a black car and their pictures show a horribly destroyed car (in addition to the blue car and truck). What exactly happened?

Leo, calm down dude, it was mostly tongue-in-cheek.

"Leo-nc, where were you a couple days ago when I posted a blog about the FBI inditing a police chief and his croonies for covering up hate crimes."---

Doing my job. you see Gandalla, I don't post here when I'm working. Pretty nifty idea don't you think?

    "
Dude, they write tickets and work wrecks."----

...and respond to domestics, save the tail of someone else rolling in the ditch, respond to active shooters, search and rescue, anti-terrorism, interdiction, teach an endless amount of BLET classes for OTHER agencies, driver training, defensive tactics, etc. etc. I can't tell you how many times one of us has saved the tail of someone from another agency in trouble so think about that the next time you're about to have it handed to you.

while I normally respect what you say, and agree with 99.9% of it, you may want to think about that for a minute...

"SHP is one of the few agencies in the state that still conducts law enforcement the way it should be and doesn't fold in to liberal pressure."

Dude, they write tickets and work wrecks.

"Police should not trigger these high speed chases, unless they spot Osama Bin Laden on the Outer Beltline. Then it would be ok."

Do you think people just slow down and start driving normal if the police stop chasing? Most of the time, no. There were only a few comments last year on the story where the guy killed someone AFTER the police stopped chasing him.

"And if the driver of that vehicle lived, well they should be very thankful and feel extremely lucky."

Just saw the pics. No doubt about that!
