Capricious temperatures a sure sign of fall
Fall is settling into central North Carolina with a blaze of color and a week of wildly fluctuating temperatures ahead.

Triangle residents woke up Monday to what is forecast as the the coldest day of the week, with overnight temperatures dipping into the 30s. But the mercury will rise into the 70s in the next few days.
"It is November now, and we will see some pretty big fluctuations in our temperature," WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said. "But we are trending cooler."
There will abundant sunshine Monday, along with a few high, thin clouds. Sunny skies should prevail for the next few days, despite moisture that will push into the region from the Atlantic Ocean by Tuesday.
That moisture will bring clouds but no rain, Gardner said.
While the weather will warm up through the week, another cooling trend is on the way for the weekend. A cold front moving in Thursday will push down the expected high Friday to 58 degrees.
"The front comes through with a chance of showers, and then we cool down," Gardner said. "This is the time of year you really have to pay attention to what is happening with the forecast."
