RALEIGH, N.C. — Capitol Broadcasting Company has donated nearly $60,000 to the mass communications and journalism program at Saint Augustine’s University as part of a newly established partnership, the school announced Wednesday.

The gift will be used towards equipment upgrades for the program.

The partnership also includes professional development opportunities for students, a visiting lecturer series with WRAL-TV employees and a media advisory board comprised of broadcast, digital and print journalists as well as corporate communications professionals.

“The future of broadcasting is in the hands of those entering our industry,” said Steve Hammel, vice president and general manager of WRAL-TV, in a statement. “We want to help Saint Augustine’s University’s students to be as successful as possible so that the future of our industry remains bright. We are pleased to collaborate with St. Aug’s faculty and students as the University prepares its students for their careers.”

Capitol Broadcasting is the parent company of WRAL-TV.
