— A Youngsville woman was arrested Thursday on a charge that she stole thousands of dollars over a three-year period from a Raleigh car dealership.

Christy Arnold Hocutt, 41, of 75 Highview Drive, allegedly embezzled $84,620 from Capital Ford in north Raleigh from Sept. 10, 2011, to Nov. 25, 2014, according to an arrest warrant.

The warrant indicates that she was employee "entrusted" to receive money, but it does not elaborate on her position with the company.

Three years is entirely reasonable for a business this size. That $84K is a drop in the bucket on the revenue Capital Ford brings in each month, let alone in a year or three years.

Think about it. If somebody comes into the business to get service that costs $120 paying cash. Perhaps she takes the cash and puts that in her pocket. On any given day, some customers pay and some do not. Some might leave their cars to the next day. So, how much money should have been collected that day? I can easily imagine that a single missing payment might go unnoticed that day. Receipts were likely close to correct. What we're talking here is about $120/day.

Perhaps people get parts. I've seen instances where they just grab a part from the parts department and nothing is written, except an invoice that could be easily destroyed. Maybe the parts department slowly lost parts?

It takes time. And they might be wrong. She might be innocent!

All that bothers me in these type of stories is" "allegedly embezzled" No trial, no sentence yet this person, IF innocent can not every recover her reputation. I have no personal knowledge of this person, so it is what we do on this site COMMENT Thank you

The media makes it appear that females are charged with embezzlement a whole lot more than males.... I can think of several women who have been accused and reported about, but I'm drawing a blank on the men... I guess it's bigger news where there is a tear stained face..

Some people must not understand what accused means..innocent until proven guilty..just seems really weird 3 years and no one noticed..sounds like someone is taking the wrap

Why did it take 3 years to find out they were short so much money? Does Capital Ford have any accountants that actually do their job?
