FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Hospitals and other medical facilities under the Cape Fear Valley Health umbrella will restrict children under the age of 12 from visiting beginning Tuesday due to an increase in flu cases.

Officials announced the policy change Monday, saying it is "designed to minimize the spread of flu and other flu-like diseases" at the following facilities:

  • Cape Fear Valley Medical Center
  • Highsmith-Rainey Specialty Hospital
  • Cape Fear Valley Rehabilitation Center
  • Behavioral Health Care
  • Hoke Hospital
  • Bladen County Hospital
  • Betsy Johnson Hospital
  • Central Harnett Hospital

Cape Fear Valley Medical Center's emergency department will also limit visitors while the policy is in place, officials said.

People experiencing flu-like symptoms, such as fever, cough, sore throat and runny nose, are urged not to visit friends and family at the hospitals.

Cape Fear Valley Health will revisit the visitation policy when flu numbers decrease.
