— A Camp Lejeune Marine was killed in Afghanistan last week, the U.S. Department of Defense said Monday.

Lance Cpl. Lucas C. Scott, 20, of Peebles, Ohio, died Dec. 3 during combat operations in the Helmand province of Afghanistan.

Scott was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division II Marine Expeditionary Force.

Further information about Scott was not released by the Defense Department, but WLWT-TV in Cincinnati reported relatives saying that Scott had been seriously injured in an attack days before his death but refused to take a break from fighting.

He was expected to return home Jan. 17.

swtpea44 and Juncyard...Thankyou for the comment that you left for this brave MARINE, and that is exactly what he is a "MARINE", not a soldier, "SOLDIERS" are in the army. Coming from a military family, people often mistake this! Rest In Peace, Marine, you paid the ultimate price for our freedom, and for that you will not have died in vain! God bless his family!
