A Camp Lejeune Marine and his girlfriend have been arrested in connection with the shooting death last week of his wife.

<b>JACKSONVILLE, N.C.</b> — A Camp Lejeune Marine and his girlfriend have been arrested in connection with the shooting death last week of his wife.

The Onslow County Sheriff's Office said Marquis Antonius Cheatham, 23, and Dominique Augusta Atkinson, 21, are both charged with murder in the April 1 death of Ashley McCarthy at her home in Montgomery, Ala.

Cheatham was arrested on Wednesday at Camp Lejeune; Atkinson was arrested Friday. Both are awaiting extradition to Alabama.

McCarthy was found dead in her home around 7 a.m. Monday, and authorities in Montgomery say the shooting appeared to have stemmed from an ongoing argument.
