Camp Lejeune Marine, girlfriend face murder charge in wife's death

Posted April 8, 2013

— A Camp Lejeune Marine and his girlfriend have been arrested in connection with the shooting death last week of his wife.

The Onslow County Sheriff's Office said Marquis Antonius Cheatham, 23, and Dominique Augusta Atkinson, 21, are both charged with murder in the April 1 death of Ashley McCarthy at her home in Montgomery, Ala.

Cheatham was arrested on Wednesday at Camp Lejeune; Atkinson was arrested Friday. Both are awaiting extradition to Alabama.

McCarthy was found dead in her home around 7 a.m. Monday, and authorities in Montgomery say the shooting appeared to have stemmed from an ongoing argument.

"And they want to make it HARDER to get a divorce-guess they need to anticipate an increase in murder if that happens." Scubagirl

What a childish and rediculous statement. You think people murder a loved one because of the "difficulty" of getting a divorce? More likely its about money, or children or property etc... Issues that wont go away regardless when you are talking about relationships that have fallen apart.

What in the world ever happened to divorce????

And they want to make it HARDER to get a divorce-guess they need to anticipate an increase in murder if that happens.

sad that people resort to murder "ongoing arguments". They were all so young with the rest of their lives ahead of them.

Extending the divorce "waiting period" in NC is absurd. Money making venture for lobbyists and anyone else who supports such a silly idea. 2 years and "mandatory counseling" as part of the process. Lawyers, counselors, judges and the rest of the lot can't wait to get their hands on all the money they will benefit from.

I thought NC law said marriage was between one man and one woman not one man and two women. So much for that law being enforced

Guess divorce would have taken to long? What people will do when confronted with a disagreement is amazing these days.
