Camp Johnson-based Marine dies from car crash injuries

Military officials say Staff Sgt. Yeeshing L. Samuel, 32, of Queens, N.Y., died Saturday as a result of injuries sustained in a car crash.

CAMP JOHNSON, N.C. — Military officials say Staff Sgt. Yeeshing L. Samuel, 32, of Queens, N.Y., died Saturday as a result of injuries sustained in a car crash.

The Marine was assigned to Field Medical Training Battalion-East at Camp Johnson.

Samuel served as a motor transport operations chief and was promoted to his current rank Oct. 1, 2005. He deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from May to October 2009; to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with II Marine Expeditionary Force from September 2007 to March 2008; and to Kuwait from February to May 2003.

The crash that killed Samuel remained under investigation Tuesday. More details concerning the wreck haven't been released.
