— More than 100 heads of cabbage were stolen from a community garden operated by Habitat for Humanity of Rocky Mount, officials said Monday.

A Habitat volunteer discovered the theft over the weekend, and officials were expected to file a police report Monday, said Lee Modlin, who operates the nonprofit's local store. He said he wasn't sure if any other vegetables were taken from the garden, which is off Cokey Road in Rocky Mount.

If you get $1 a piece for even half of them, that's $50.

That's a point, and at this time of the month, everyone's social security, welfare and food stamps have run out.

Still...hoping it goes for food and not for some kid's cabbage canon.

Times are really getting tough when someone steals such as this rather than $$$, cigarettes or liquor.

Should be able to track these stinky thieves down by smell alone. Seriously, I'm not a fan of habitat for humanity so I'm not crying much over the headless field.

Those darn Cabbage Patch kids strike again.

The cabbage was to be given to those in need. They were not intended to be sold to a grocery. Many people just enjoy stealing.

Not surprised in that area of town. Need to keep everything under lock and key and a big dog around.
