Jobless rates drop across most of NC
Unemployment rates dropped in 93 of North Carolina's 100 counties in February, the state Employment Security Commission said Wednesday.

Statewide, the unemployment rate was 9.7 percent in February. Twenty-nine counties were at or below that rate, the ESC said.
The Triangle had an 8 percent unemployment rate during the month, down from 8.3 percent in January. In the Raleigh-Cary metro area, the rate also declined from 8.3 to 8 percent, while it dropped from 7.6 to 7.3 percent in the Durham-Chapel Hill metro area.
The Fayetteville metro area saw its jobless rate decline from 10.1 to 9.7 percent, while the rate in the Rocky Mount metro area fell from 13.2 to 12.7 percent.
Orange County had the state’s lowest unemployment rate in February, at 6.2 percent. Meanwhile, Swain County had the highest unemployment rate, at 18.1 percent.
The number of workers employed increased in February by 16,546, to 3,988,617. The number of people unemployed decreased by 15,025, to 445,872.
