— A new Walmart store on Old Wake Forest Road in north Raleigh opened Wednesday morning, the company announced.

Approximately 430 people have been hired to work at the store at 8031 Old Wake Forest Road, near Triangle Town Center Mall, store manager Turi Cason said. Full-time Walmart workers in North Carolina earn an average of $11.94 an hour, the company says.

The 176,400-square-foot store carries groceries and has a pharmacy and branch of WoodForest Bank. It will be open 24 hours a day.

The store has a revamped layout and environmentally friendly features, including skylights and LED lighting to reduce energy expenses.

"The layout of the store is easy to navigate, which will save our customers time as they shop for everyday necessities," said Cason. "By grouping the products that our customers most often purchase, including health and beauty and pet supplies, we are making one-stop shopping even easier."

At a grand-opening ceremony Wednesday, the company gave $25,000 to local groups, including the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, Raleigh Fire Department and various schools.

Congratulations on supporting "Made in China" products. Sad part is that no matter where you go, this is the case. When are we going to bring jobs back in the US?

I welcome the new Walmart as an alternative to the store on New Hope road. I frequent many stores and restaurants in the TTC area including Target, but Target does not have the same product selection variety you typically find at Walmart. I think there will be enough customers to support both stores given the growth of the TTC area and the close proximity to 540.

"Just what we need, another Wal-Mart. How many of those 430 people hired speak English?"

Why does that matter? I can assure you that I would much rather have a hispanic (if that's what you're talking about) than any other race help me in most cases. They're polite and they work hard. That's what's wrong with this country...everyone complains about hispanics but the people complaining won't do their jobs or if they do, they are slow, lethargic, rude etc... Give me a hispanic any day. If you're here illegally, I don't want any part of you at any race. If you're her legally, I welcome a hispanic worker anyday. By the way, I'm white.
