N.C. consumers snap up last $650,000 in appliance rebates

— Consumers across North Carolina snapped up $650,000 in appliance rebates over the holiday shopping weekend.

The state’s energy office had made the rebates available from other unspent federal stimulus funds.

People who missed out on the latest rebates can be put on a waiting list for possible future rebates. Consumers can visit the program website or call 1-877-379-7323.

According to the energy office, most of the latest rebates - more than $231,000 – went for 1,545 refrigerators.

Second most popular were clothes washers at $172,600 for 1,726 machines.

    Deficit in NC? What deficit? The state obviously has a surplus if it can throw have a million needlessly down a hole. I don't want to here any more bunk about needing MORE tax money. They just tossed 650k in a hole here. All this did was cost the state 650k raising our deficit AND artificially inflate the price of these goods. The WHOLE point of a recession is a natural adjustment to overvaluation. This did not help.
