MORRISVILLE, N.C. — Payroll and human resources services firm Ceridian is closing its Morrisville operation where some 190 people currently work.

A company spokesperson confirmed to WRAL.com and Local Tech Wire on Thursday morning that the Ceridian Payroll Services office will be consolidated with another operation in St. Petersburg, Fla.

The Morrisville office will close “sometime in 2011,” said company spokesperson Cary Griffith.

Some workers will be offered the opportunity to transfer and others will be retained to work virtually with the firm, she added.

“Ceridian is refining its operations model by consolidating its Centers of Excellence,” Griffith said. “In short, we are transitioning the Raleigh operations center to a Ceridian-owned facility in St. Petersburg, Fla.

“There are approximately 190 employees in this facility,” she added. “Some of the employees will transition to a virtual work arrangement and others are considering relocating to our St. Petersburg office. The facility will close in mid-2011.”

Griffith said affected employees are being offered compensation.

“Recognizing the impact on employees and their families, we are offering retention and severance packages to ease the transition in the coming months,” she said.

Ceridian, which is based in Minneapolis, Minn., reported nearly $1.5 billion in revenues in 2009.

The company offers human resources, payroll, benefits and payment solutions.
