— A company that makes kitchen and bathroom cabinets plans to expand its plant in Kinston, creating 334 jobs, officials said Thursday.

MasterBrand Cabinets Inc., a subsidiary of Fortune 500 company Fortune Brands Inc., will invest more than $3.75 million in the plant in the next three years. The Kinston plant already employs more than 200, and the company plans to reconfigure the facility to produce a new kitchen and bath product line.

"Our Kinston facility has so many beneficial attributes that make it ideal for production of this new cabinetry line, including location, a great work force and available capacity," MasterBrand President Greg Stoner said in a statement.

The average annual salary of the new positions will be $25,787, plus benefits, officials said.

MasterBrand, which is based in Jasper, Ind., has qualified for a $200,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund, which provides financial assistance to attract business projects that will stimulate economic activity and create jobs. Companies must meet job creation and investment performance standards to obtain the money.

wcumom- No, I'm not kidding. Not really sure what the minority rate has to do with it. Stats don't tell the story.

I grew up in Kinston and there are a lot of places I would not like to caught at night, but here are also some nice areas with people needing jobs. Kinston was built on the back of Dupont. Dupont is long gone, and Kinston has been going downhill ever since. It has one of the nicest primary residential areas you will find in any town in eastern NC. It's like one big subdivision. Kinston needs jobs to recover, and they now have two new industries and this one expanding. The stats will change as the situation continues to improve.

Kinston has been down for a long time. It's nice to see the commmunity making a rebound. It is one of the few bright spots in the state.

Are you joking? Kinston's crime rate is above the National average in every crime.63% minority rate

I'm very familiar with this company. They deserve this, especially after the large layoffs they endured last year.Good economic business for the area.
