Raleigh, N.C. — Five commercial underwriters with Nationwide Insurance in Raleigh are being laid off, according to a company spokesman.

The employees will receive their 60-day notices this week, the company said.

"We're trying to give the impacted associates as much time as possible to begin looking for other employment," the spokesman said.

"At the same time, we are working to provide the impacted people with individual career coaching as well as counseling services with an Associate Assistance Program counselor. The cutbacks, while isolated, reflect a lower demand in the commercial underwriting market."
