Bayer CropScience to add 128 jobs in Morrisville

The state will provide the company with tax incentives towards an expansion of its Morrisville facility.

Bayer CropScience to expand in Morrisville
RALEIGH, N.C. — Bayer CropScience will expand its operations in Morrisville with as many as 128 new jobs over the next five years, officials announced Wednesday.

The state will provide the company with as much as $2.3 million in tax rebates through a Job Development Investment Grant as part of an incentive plan for the company’s expansion.

Bayer CropScience said it would invest some $10.2 million in its Morrisville facility.

The expansion will include a research and development center and the firm’s BioAnalytics and Regulatory Affairs operations.

“Bayer CropScience has strong roots in North Carolina, and a firm commitment to continuing to grow our business here,” Bill Buckner, Bayer CropScience’s chief executive, said in a statement. “In addition to having one of the best-trained biotechnology work forces in the country, this region is also a center of agricultural and biotechnology innovation, so when we were looking to expand our innovation capacity, it made great business sense to do so in this area. We are excited about establishing our Research and Development Innovation Center here, and the opportunities it provides for our company and the region.”

Some 400 people already work for Bayer CropScience in Morrisville. A part of Bayer AG, Bayer CropScience focuses on biotechnology to boost crops.

“North Carolina is a recognized world leader in biotechnology manufacturing and research,” Gov. Beverly Perdue said in a statement. “Our state continues to support the expansion of global companies attracted by our top-rated business climate, knowledge-based work force and unparalleled quality of life.”

North Carolina’s biotech industry is one of the largest clusters in the country with more than 50,000 workers.

The grant was approved by the state’s Economic Investment Committee at a meeting Wednesday.

According to Perdue’s office, the new jobs will pay average salaries of $101,018, plus benefits.
