Delta Apparel announced Wednesday its plans to close its textile manufacturing facility in Fayetteville. The closure will put 107 people out of work.

The company is consolidating production for its M. J. Soffe line of clothing into its operations in Maiden, in Catawba County, and at its Ceiba Textiles facility in Honduras.

The M. J. Soffe Fayetteville campus will continue to employ approximately 550 people in other capacities, including sewing, screen printing and distribution.

"These decisions are never easy, especially when they affect associates who have been dedicated and loyal to our company," Bob Humphreys, president and chief executive officer of Delta Apparel, said in a statement. “However, as our business becomes increasingly competitive, we can no longer justify the additional cost associated with operating two U.S. textile facilities."

The movement out of the Fayetteville facility will begin during the third fiscal quarter, which begins in April, and will be completed in June. The closing is expected to save the company approximately $1 million annually.

Workers affected by the closing will be considered for open positions in other areas as well as transfers to other Delta Apparel facilities, Humphreys said.

So more textile jobs go south/out of the country. What about the loss of these textile jobs is different from the thousands already lost? The company doing the job cutting isn't losing money; to the contrary they are posting record profits.

Thanks MJ Soffe for showing us exactly where your loyalties lie.

Remember look for the MADE IN AMERICA label!!!!

Interesting. This story was posted at 9:47 pm and is off the front page before 8 am. Meanwhile Delta is posting record profits on record sales, pulling long faces at the tragedy of "restructuring" and smiling all the way to the bank due to cheap offshore labor.
