RALEIGH, N.C. – Cricket Communications, a provider of wireless services, is expanding its coverage area to the Triangle.

As a result, the company is looking to hire 50 people. It also expects independent dealers and retailers to add another 50 people to support customers.

Cricket will have a job fair on April 3 for prospective employees. The fair will run 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Courtyard Marriott in Morrisville. Openings include retail, management and administrative positions, including indirect account managers, retail sales representatives, assistant retail business managers, retail business managers, sales coordinator, and administrative assistant.

The company also is launching service in Burlington. It is already available in several other North Carolina markets and in 22 states.

Cricket offers service on a flat rate basis.

“We are very excited to be introducing the Cricket service in the Triangle,” said Todd Elliott, area general manager for Cricket in the Carolinas and Georgia. “Expanding our coverage to this area is a great benefit to our current customers. The Triangle is a very important market to us, and we are already actively reaching out to the community to fill several key positions to ensure that we have the right team in place when we launch our affordable wireless service.”

Cricket is part of Leap Wireless, which is based in California.
