CARY, N.C. — Some Best Buy shoppers in Cary got in line Wednesday in order to be the first people through the doors when the store opens at midnight on Black Friday.

“The whole family is here. We had Thanksgiving yesterday. It’s sort of a tradition now. We’ve done this for a few years now,” said K. Rummel who camped out with his family in front of the store at the Cary Crossroads shopping center.

Rummel set up a tent on Wednesday afternoon.

“They have a cool TV, a 32-inch for $199. They have a deal on several laptops, and I’m grabbing some friends some items they wanted because they know I’m the crazy one who’s willing to do this,” Rummel said.

Inside the store, employees spent the final working hours gearing up for the shopping showdown. Preparations kicked into high gear at closing. Employees will return at about 11 p.m. Thursday.

Employee Jamain Dabney said he loves the holidays and welcomes the campers eager to stock up on gifts.

“These are dedicated customers. They want great deals. It just shows their loyalty to Best Buy and getting the best deals for the holidays,” Dabney said.

Store employees at Best Buy said they have put a system in place to guard against customers getting trampled by allowing a few people in at a time.
